DIY bulletin board
We desperately needed a bulletin board for our home. Especially for bills, but also for keeping material memories visible.
I thrifted a vintage cross-stitch picture with frame. A huge one, perfect for a great big bulletin board.
Classic motif.
Tape off the parts you do not want to colour.
I started out painting the picture with fabric paint, but that did not work at all. Wool was a lot more difficult to colour than I expected, so I ended up spraypainting the whole thing.
More protection for the frame since I wanted to keep the original colours. Newspaper pages comes so very much in handy for all kinds of crafty work!
I wanted a gold bulletin board, but I was not sarisfied with the shade of gold on the wool embroidery, it was more of a dirty brownish shade than the pretty solid gold that stuck to the paper. So I took out my black spray paint.
I am happy with the result!
Have you made a bulletin board out of recycled materials?
Have a great Thursday!

my own little spring nook
I am so happy to, after more than six months, be able to decorate with furniture that are our own and small things that aren't borrowed from the flat we are renting. This is how my own little spring nook looks like! It is in one corner of our combined livingroom and diningroom.
The prints I have bought from Taulu ja tapetti (Oma koti kullan kallis) and Highway Design (Home is where the heart is).
Highway Design products can be bought online from Hops Shop and Konglomerat in Finland and Mokkasin in Sweden. Johanna is a friend of mine and I am really a sucker for her design. Be sure to check out her other projects and collectives: FYRAN and Design Stories Ostrobothnia.
I've covered tin cans with knits. Hopefully I will return on that matter soon.
The horse head candle stick is from another friend, Linda Karlsson. She is an art potter. I went to see her one man exhibition ".bird.and.fur.in.space." at ID:I Galleri and I fell in love with her characters. I really admire her work too!
The black metal wire hangers are from ICA Maxi. A six pack cost only about 10 SEK. Me likes!
I am on a knitting frenzy, creating my own patterns. I keep yarn and needles close and in the open, then I can easily pick them up when I walk by a knit a few rows now and then.
It has been too long since I bought fresh flowers. I love looking at them!
I bought this cupboard at Myrorna thrift shop. It was perfect for my nook! And I got it pretty cheap! Happy!
A few hours later my nook had a new look. My daughter also wanted to decorate, and she on her hand is a sucker for coloured tape! Note the wall art from one of her earlier decorating sessions.
My corner still looked good in evening lamp light.
Another investment I've made for our new apartment is these metal stools. Near the shoe store I work in, in the galleria in Liljeholmen, is a TGR store. I walk by it everytime I arrive by subway. It is a really dangerous store. And wonderful, cause these stools only cost 60 SEK per chair. A very good alternative to all those chabby chic dead exspensive ones that are so popular. And yes, they are steady!
Let's hope spring comes soon! While waiting I have my spring indoors.
All the best to your Thursday!

X-MAS DIY: cushion covers
One of my home decor DIY's I am really pleased with. Very simple to make, great result!
I found the red-purple rya at Stadsmissionen in Gamla Stan. Love it! I've wanted to make cusion covers from steady wool material so the rya got to come home with me. The material for the blue cushion was thrifted at my local Myrorna.
I used:
- a thrifted rya
- one coloured cushion cover
- an embroidered strip of fabric
- wool yarn and a big needle
1. I started with the rya. Folded it, right sides facing. I did not want the fringe to be visible on the finished cusion cover, so I sewed a simple running stitch beneath the fringe, so that when I turned the project inside out the fringe stayed on the inside.
2. When the project is turned inside out ande you've got the right side facing you, you continue sewing the sides of the cushion cover. I used a blanket stitch (see video instructions here) for the sides. Start with one side. Then stuff your cover with a cushion before you stitch the other side together. And you are done!
For the second cushion cover I just sewed the embroidered fabric strips directly onto the second hand cushion cover with a running stitch. I folded the short side ends in before stitching so that they would not fringe. That is about as simple a refashion you can get!
Happy crafting!

DIY pallet bed
These are pictures from our old house, the one we moved out of a few month ago (oh how time passes!). We made our own bed base from simple [euro] pallets. I like the rough style. And I loved adding colour to accompany the wood and the otherwise white room.
I shot these pictures in the evening, so they are a bit dark and foggy.
I bought the pallets from a transportation company in Vaasa. The rugs are from Ikea.
The dresses are second hand. The drawer is from anno.fi. The colourful throw is also second hand.
The small red chair is my husband's. He got it as a kid. The table was a thrift find that I had big diy plans for, but I never got to work on it. It found its way back to the thrift shop.
I miss our house a little bit, and all the furniture we weren't able to bring to our new hometown. But I am very happy with our current way of living: in a small apartment, with a lot less stuff.
